Equine Rescue. We are a 501c3 established in 2007 after we found Soy-Nay-Yain a pen in manure a foot deep. We were told she was unwanted because of accidental cross-breeding, so we took her home with us and we have been rescuing horses ever since. AJ Horse Rescue is based out of our ranch, located at the foot of the beautiful Superstition Mountains. On one and a half acres 5 miles from Apache Junction, Arizona, which forms the eastern boundary of the Phoenix Metro area. The AJ Horse Rescue is currently rehabilitating a number horses and has placed 50 horses with ecstatic new owners since our inception. Over the internet and working with other Rescues in Arizona AJHR has helped an additional 100 plus horses. Our horses come from all over the state, as far south as Tucson and as far north as Kingman, and our adoptive families are just as diverse, spanning various races and geographic regions. Each rescue horse comes from a different situation and requires varying levels of care and rehabilitation. They may stay for one month up to twelve. On average, it costs $1,940.00 to $2,180.00 per year to get a horse ready for adoption- not including lots of love. Our organization relies on the dedication of volunteers as we have no paid staff. Volunteers groom, ride and exercise and provide companionship for the animals.
