Geauga Humane Society's Rescue Village

The only humane society in NE Ohio that has a barn program. The Rescue Village Barn Peace, Safety, and Compassion to All The barn serves all horses and farm animals that are brought in by the Geauga humane officer from situations of abuse, neglect, or abandonment. It provides immediate shelter and rehabilitative support to these animals until they are adopted or suitable to be fostered offsite. Geauga County and the Chagrin Valley have one of the highest per capita rates for horses in the State of Ohio. The horse industry is comprised of everything from high level thoroughbreds and show horses, to Amish buggy horses in rural Geauga, to privately owned horses that serve as family pets. Rescue Village is home to the only barn program run by a humane society in our region. The 5-stall barn fulfilled a dream held dear by many of our animal-loving supporters to provide rescue, rehabilitation, and re-homing for horses and farm animals saved from cruelty, neglect and abandonment cases. Since its construction, we have housed over 100 equines and farm animals. The barn program makes a strong statement that ALL animals deserve our moral concern. In this horse-loving community, the enforcement of humane law statutes is of great importance. Our humane society is addressing a serious concern and big need by taking responsibility to rescue and then save horses that have been abused or neglected. While most barn residents have been horses, Rescue Village has also saved cows, pigs, goats, llamas, chickens, roosters, ducks, geese and even a peacock.
