L.E.A.R.N. is in the State of South Carolina as a non-profit organization. L.E.A.R.N. is recognized in the State of South Carolina as a non-profit organization. We have been operating as a private animal rescue for more than 20 years. With a steady increase of cases over the past few years and the intake of 33 horses in May of 2009, the decision was made to secure non-profit status. We are an all-volunteer organization with no paid staff positions. Our efforts are funded solely through donations. Our Mission It is our mission is to educate our youth, prospective owners, and owners concerning the proper care of animals. We also support the local Animal Control departments with the care and housing of abused and neglected farm animals. We are dedicated to the management of reported neglect cases and work with law enforcement to insure the animals receive the care and feed needed for optimal health. We save equines with your help Animals that have endured starvation, neglect and physical abuse are rehabilitated at L.E.A.R.N., receiving medical attention, human contact, and proper diet. We rehabilitate each animal before starting the process of finding the "forever" home each deserves. We work closely with Edisto Equine Clinic and Shambley Equine Clinic so that our rescues receive the best care and rehabilitation protocol. We follow AAEP vaccination guidelines. Why we are doing this We are horse owners and lovers and we are filling a need in our communities. The majority of animal shelters are not equipped to care for equines or large farm animals nor do they have the specialized experience. We can provide that service and continue to work toward our goal of eliminating abuse and neglect cases through education and public awareness.
